The Tick Program

The Tick Program

The Tick Program is the Heart Foundation's guide to help you make healthier food choices quickly and easily. Foods with the Tick are healthier choices among foods of their type. Tick foods are lower in saturated fat, sodium (salt) and where appropriate, kilojoules. Some are also higher in fibre.

All foods are independently tested and assessed against strict nutritional guidelines before getting the Tick of approval. Try foods with the Tick for a taste of healthier eating. For more information on the Tick program visit www.heartfoundation.com.au/tick or call 1300 36 27 87.

The Fresh Tastes @ School Initiative

The Fresh Tastes @ School Initiative

The Fresh Tastes @ School Initiative has been specifically developed as part of the NSW Government's Healthy School Canteen Strategy to address obesity in our children and young people. The initiative uses a traffic light approach to rate foods according to their nutritional benefits:

Green foods provide good sources of nutrients, less saturated fat/added sugar and salt and help avoid intake of excess energy. These foods should fill the canteen menu.

Amber foods have some nutritional benefits, moderate levels of saturated fat, added sugar/salt and can in large serves contribute to excess energy. These foods should be selected carefully and large serving sizes should be avoided.

Red foods lack adequate nutritional value, are high in saturate fat/added sugar and salt and can contribute to excdess energy. These foods should not be sold on more than two occasions per term.

Virtually Trans Free - VTF

Virtually Trans Free - VTF

Goodman Fielder recognises the current health concern about the presence of trans fat (trans fatty acids) in foods. These fats arise predominantly from the partial hydrogenation of liquid vegetable oils to make solid margarines and shortenings. Scientific research has shown that trans fats have a harmful effect on health.

This has resulted in a focus by the food industry to reduce the level of these fats in food products, with many manufacturers now seeking alternatives to partially hydrogenated vegetable oils.

Goodman Fielder continually reviews the potential for reducing trans fat content of selected products without adversely affecting product quality and functionality. A large range of cooking oils which are virtually trans free is available from Goodman Fielder, as is a range of Pilot Transend bakery margarines and shortenings which do not contain partially hydrogenated vegetable oils and are also virtually trans free.
